  • In the meantime - what are your burning ideas for change that the Network needs to discuss? Feel free to get the ball rolling on new policy resolutions now by contacting Michael Barkman (CCEDNet Manitoba Public Policy Coordinator) -

Why participate in the Policy Summit?

A blustery morning invited us on November 27th, 2019, as you joined other CCEDNet members pouring into tightly placed spots in the United Way Learning Centre for the annual Policy Summit.

That day you shared your ideas, knowledge, discussion, and passed resolutions (some with incredibly detailed plans!) about what changes in policy and budgeting are needed to make our province a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable place.

Little did we know, the ensuing year would be one of the most crucial for public policy in our lifetimes, with government decision-making occuring at what feels like an unprecedented pace.

Importantly, public policy advocacy across the Network throughout COVID-19 has been based on the foundation of your ideas from previous Policy Summits.

The Network’s public policy process is more important than ever.

Through the member-led democratic process, your leadership and collaboration makes an individual idea more credible in the eyes of government and the broader community.

Your resolutions - pragmatic, wide-ranging and solutions-focused - end up as a set of public policy recommendations for our provincial and municipal governments.

While this year we won’t be piling into the same room for close-knit discussion, the Policy Summit will go virtual with more chances to engage with resolutions and other members in the lead up to November 4th. We’ll all do our best to virtually re-create that warm feeling that comes with spending the morning together crammed into the Learning Centre talking policy.
