The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking a Housing Coordinator to oversee our Housing programs, ensuring women struggling with poverty develop their skills and access community financial resources, secure safe housing and other basic needs to support their health, improve their standard of living and the quality of their life for themselves, their children and their families.

Start Date: April 2017
Salary: salary commensurate with experience, includes benefits
Time requirement: 37.5 hours per week
Closing date: March 27, 2017

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise and Support Staff and Volunteers

  • Act as direct supervisor for HOMES and More Than Four Walls staff as per WCWRC Supervisor Duties, develop and maintain a respectful, positive work environment
  • Ensure Program staff are meeting all the requirements of their program and that programming reflects WCWRC philosophy
  • Conduct annual Mentor Training (20 participants)
  • Guide the HOMES Intake Worker in the daily supervision of HOMES Mentors

Deliver and Guide HOMES Program and More Than Four Walls Program

  • Ensure programs operate within the confines of their budgets and WCWRC policies
  • Promote programs and ensure outreach material is current and relevant

Partner and Network

  • Actively participate in community networks and remain in communication/retain membership with others
  • Develop information on policy related issues for educational, public or organizational use (including the education of government staff and representatives)

Evaluation

  • Ensure strong, useful program evaluation is occurring for all aspects of housing programs as per funding and WCWRC requirements (using evaluation plans/tracking)

Fund Development

  • Develop grant proposals and reports in collaboration with Executive Director keeping with WCWRC proposal/reporting guidelines

  • Develop and maintain annual program budget in collaboration with Executive Director and bookkeeper

Reporting

  • Ensure Executive Director is kept aware of all trends, priority issues, concerns, and opportunities and assist with problem solving issues raised
  • Track reporting dates and write proposal and reports for funding related to housing programs in collaboration with Executive Director

Other

  • Actively participate in WCWRC staff retreats, trainings and meetings
  • In conjunction with other WCWRC staff, provide on-going informal support, referral and direction to community women using the Centre
  • Support drop-in and other programming as requested

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities sought

  • Post-secondary education in social services, including Social Work, Inner City Studies, or similar; a combination of experience and education may be considered
  • Experience in supervision, supporting and mentoring of a diverse group including staff and volunteers
  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Superior problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization, homelessness, and poverty
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Experience developing and managing a budget and writing proposals and reports
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Presentation and facilitation skills
  • Professional and responsible with sensitive and confidential issues
  • Strong administrative skills, including a strong attention to detail
