Join the CCEDNet Annual Meeting
in Winnipeg

CCEDNet’s AGM will be held on June 6 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as part of the Manitoba spring member meeting, where Manitoba members will enjoy a day of networking, celebrating success, setting direction for the coming year, and learning.  At noon, this year’s AGM will cover essential business, leaving substantive discussions for the member gathering at the Social Enterprise World Forum in Calgary (see below).

Members who can't get to Winnipeg but would like to participate can join by webinar or teleconference, but you need to register by June 4. Email info at ccednet-rcdec.ca if you'd like to to attend virtually.

CCEDNet Member Gathering at the 2013 Social Enterprise World Forum

CCEDNet is pleased to be a supporting partner in this year’s Social Enterprise World Forum.  Registration is now open, and early-bird registration rates run until July 25.  Register now >>

CCEDNet members are invited to a special gathering just prior to the Forum, on October 2, 4-6 pm.  This session will look at CCEDNet’s strategic directions, inspired by new local economy initiatives internationally.  So plan to come a bit early when you book your travel to the SEWF!  For more information on this session, email Philippe at p.menard-cote@ccednet-rcdec.ca 


Creative Community Business Conference in Cape Breton

The Community Economic Development Institute of the Shannon School of Business presents their Creative Community Business conference on July 10-12. The conference brings together practitioners, researchers, and community organizations to discuss current practices, challenges, and emerging trends in community business.  The conference includes presentations from more than 20 thought leaders, with the keynote from Kevin Lynch, former Clerk of the Privy Council and now Vice-Chair at BMO.  Early bird rates end May 15.  Register now >>

CCEDNet will be organizing a meeting for all Atlantic members on July 10, from 1-4:30pm with presentations by Executive Director Mike Toye and Regional Director Brendan Reimer, examining CCEDNet-Manitoba’s success and possible strategies to advance CED in Atlantic Canada.  For more info, email Philippe Ménard-Côté at p.menard-cote@ccednet-rcdec.ca


Board Nomination Results

This year, two seats were up for election on CCEDNet’s Board of Directors. By the nomination deadline of April 8, we received two qualified nominations, leading our Elections Officer to declare elected by acclamation:

CreateAction Across Canada

Forty young people across the country are in the process of beginning 5-month placements that will allow them to gain work experience in community economic development and community enterprise while building the capacity and sustainability of innovative local initiatives.  More information on the host agencies will be posted on our website soon.  In the meantime, plan to come and meet these energetic young folks at the Social Enterprise World Forum!

  

New Webinars Now Available

New webinars on the latest social economy research and microfinance are now available online.  We also have sessions on social impact bonds, the versatility of coopscommunity resiliencefinancial management for sustainability and the Canada Revenue Agency's new guidelines for Charitable Status and CED, among others.  Check out our Webinars page for more information on all the sessions.
                    
CCEDNet also partnered with the Community Social Planning Council of Greater Victoria for a webinar series they recently offered on youth social entrepreneurship.  The three webinars explore how young people and youth-serving organizations are using social enterprise to create sustainable livelihoods.  Read more >>

CCEDNet’s International webinars are supported by Uniterra, one of Canada’s largest volunteer placement programs.  With placements from two weeks to two years, there are always opportunities to explore new cultures, share your expertise and support local organizations around the world.  Current postings include an Economic Growth Analysis Advisor in Nepal and an Early Childhood Development Advisor in Malawi. CED and the Social Solidarity Economy at the World Social Forumwww.crid.asso.fr

CCEDNet’s International Committee Chair, Yvon Poirier attended the World Social Forum in Tunis in March.  Along with other partners in RIPESS, the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of the Social Solidarity Economy, the social solidarity economy was on the agenda with seven workshops and a joint final declaration.  Read more >>
