Next CCEDNet Webinars: Insights from CED Leaders & Immigrant Entrepreneurship

Kick start your new year with two upcoming webinars hosted by the  Canadian CED Network. The first session, Looking Back & Looking Forward, takes place on January 21. In this webinar, three pillars of Canada's CED sector - Lynne Markell, David LePage, and Walter Hossli - will reflect on their experience, lessons learned and vision for the future of the sector. On February 11, Community Supports for Immigrant Entrepreneurship, will examine methods for improving immigrant settlement through entrepreneurship opportunities. Help Put CED in the Federal Budget

The federal government has launched on-line pre-budget consultations and is seeking input from across the country. Through this process, organizations and individuals involved in CED have the opportunity to share ideas, express concerns, and to highlight the benefits of a CED approach. CCEDNet at the 5th International Meeting on the Social Solidarity Economy

In October, several CCEDNet members attended the 5th International Meeting of the Social Solidarity Economy (SSE) in Manila, Philippines. Held once every four years, the event provided an opportunity for social economy leaders to learn from each other and strengthen a shared vision for a fairer world. Canada Shines on the International Social Enterprise Stage

Canada was on the international stage in October as Calgary hosted the 2013 Social Enterprise World Forum.  CCEDNet was an organizing partner and many members and staff were there, including Manitoba Director Brendan Reimer, who wrote a reflective blog post. Before the Forum, CCEDNet hosted a networking reception and talk by Bob Massie the New Economy Coalition.  Mr. Massie discussed how the US and Canada can work together towards a new economy. Another Year, Another Inspiring CED Gathering

Many people have described the Manitoba CD/CED Gathering as a yearly family reunion for people with a passion for community building. The Gathering lived up to that reputation for an 11th year as over 600 people came together to network, learn and celebrate the inspiring CED work occurring in our communities. 2013 CreateAction Program Comes to a Close

Forty-three young community leaders participated in CCEDNet's 9th national CED work experience program, which concluded this fall. The CreateAction program provides placements to post-secondary graduates who are considering a career in CED. Participants were hosted by organizations across the country, and contributed to a wide variety of projects - from food security to newcomer settlement to social enterprise development. Youth Employment in the Social Economy: How a New Generation Can Generate New Opportunities in CED

Youth employment rates may be slumping, but a recent CCEDNet webinar offers a solution. Youth Employment in the Social Economy introduces real-life examples of how youth can take charge of their own careers within the social economy by creating their own initiatives and finding ways to integrate into existing programs and projects. A recording of this webinar is now available online.

This CCEDNet research paper addresses a key challenge for co-op sectors across the country – creating new financing mechanisms for co-op development. Greening the economy at the local level will bring jobs, prosperity, and help address environmental challenges. That is the finding of Green Economy at Community Scale.
