University of Winnipeg

Professor Emeritus

Jim Silver is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Winnipeg and a Research Associate with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Manitoba.

He has written extensively on poverty and poverty-related matters and on community development. Off and on for the past 20 years he has written about adult basic education, including several recent publications and a forthcoming book.

He considers adult basic education to be transformative, for individuals and for society generally. However, adult basic education is largely hidden from public view and is poorly funded by governments.
That needs to change if transformative change is to occur.
