Mary – a Cree woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba – has been a passionate community helper, advocate, and super granny for countless families and youth in Winnipeg’s North End for 30+ years. Mary is on boards nationally and internationally and has advised child welfare service delivery and policy for multiple levels of government, leveraging her experience working in the social service sector and as a former child in care.
Mary co-founded Fearless R2W in 2014 to support families navigating Manitoba’s child welfare system, seeking to reunify their families. Fearless has grown over the years, guided by the wisdom of families, grandmothers and traditional Indigenous knowledge.
Bringing a strength-based approach to supporting families, Mary remains a committed champion for transforming systems that negatively impact families and seeks to reclaim kinship ties within her own community. Mary envisions a world where families are supported to love unconditionally and care for one another.
