Monique Burke is the Anti-Racism and Climate Justice Support Teacher at the Winnipeg School Division (WSD). Formerly WSD’s Newcomer Services Coordinator, she led a team of Intercultural Support Workers, strengthened school–community partnerships, and advanced equitable access to resources for newcomer students and families. She has also held leadership roles in newcomer-serving organizations, where she developed programs in school orientation, language training, childcare, recreation, employment, and youth leadership. With over 15 years of experience in newcomer settlement, education, and non-profit management, she is deeply committed to educational equity, youth leadership, and community inclusion. As an artist and aspiring poet, Monique uses creativity as a tool for social justice, healing, and community building. She is also a mother and a lover of nature, travel, and food.
