Rafael started as Project Lead for Clan Mother’s Mother Earth Construction crew this August. He is helping start their new social enterprise – building decks and fences.
For the past 4 years, he was a carpentry crew lead at BUILD Inc. He got his start in the trades, teaching himself how to build a basic living environment, when he was facing homelessness for the last time. This gave him the confidence to go to Gardencity’s CVE carpentry program. Before this, he was focused on peer and community advocacy.
Rafael is excited to use his background to support the MEC crew on their journey of building the Clan Mothers Healing Village in Belair. Rafael is living the dream, working with other women, two spirit, queer and transgender people on a construction crew. He can’t wait to see the village become a place for more people to find that freedom, community
and healing.
