Melissa Chung-Mowat has worked in community development, focusing on supporting Indigenous peoples and new Canadians in accessing training, education, and employment opportunities for more than a decade. She is Chinese and Red River Metis and is passionate about tackling issues related to poverty and inequity through policy and systems change work. Her focus on helping organizations through strategic planning is a result of the skills that she has developed over the past 13+ years in anti-poverty initiatives, anti-oppression advocacy, community development, social enterprise development, Indigenous human resources, and training and facilitation with organizations like SEED Winnipeg Inc, Anishiative, and BUILD Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University (research focus: Relationships between racialized immigrants and Indigenous peoples in Canada).
