Job Title: Spark Engagement Coordinator
Reports to: Program Managers
Work Week: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule
Contract: One year contract with possibility of extension, funding dependant
Salary: $25.17 per hour, pension plan, extended health benefits
Position Overview
In alignment with Spark’s values, the Engagement Coordinator builds the capacity and impact of community development initiatives by cultivating and sustaining meaningful relationships with community partners and volunteers. This role strengthens Spark’s visibility and reach through thoughtful networking, effective marketing and communications, and strong stewardship practices.
The Engagement Coordinator is a natural relationship builder and storyteller who understands the power of connection and narrative in advancing social change. You will play a key role in sharing Spark’s story, supporting the impact of community organizations, and helping volunteers see how their skills can make a real difference..
You’ll collaborate with community economic development (CED) organizations across the city and work alongside volunteers eager to contribute their expertise. With a flexible schedule, a supportive team, and meaningful work, this role offers an opportunity to have a tangible and lasting impact in the community.
Responsibilities and Duties
Community & Volunteer Engagement
- Build awareness of Spark’s services with local nonprofit organizations and potential volunteers through outreach activities such as networking, presentations, cold outreach, and social media.
- Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with community organizations, volunteers.
- Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, recognition, and follow‑up to ensure a positive and meaningful volunteer experience.
Communications & Storytelling
- Develop and implement a communications strategy for Spark’s social media, website, and newsletter.
- Write and curate engaging original content that highlights Spark projects, community partners, volunteer contributions, and impact.
- Maintain and update website content using WordPress and manage Spark’s social media presence (Facebook, LinkedIn).
Program Support
- Assist Program Managers with the brokering and management of pro bono projects between community organizations and volunteers.
- Support assessments of community organizations’ capacity needs and volunteers’ skills, interests, and suitability.
- Help track engagement activities and outcomes to support reporting and continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
This position is ideal for a true people-person who loves creating connections and synergies. This role does not require previous experience in community economic development. We welcome applicants who bring transferable skills, lived experience, or a strong interest in community-led social change
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong relationships across diverse organizations and communities.
- Experience creating engaging communications across multiple platforms, including websites, newsletters, and social media.
- Familiarity with WordPress, Facebook, and LinkedIn (or similar platforms).
- Experience working or volunteering with social justice and/or community development organizations, or a strong interest in doing so is an asset.
- Previous volunteer recruitment and/or management experience is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfort using Google Workspace.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada (including with a valid work permit).
- Awareness of your own lived experience with systemic barriers and/or privilege, and how this shapes your contribution to strategic social change.
About Spark
Spark is the Canadian CED Network’s capacity building service for community organizations engaged in community renewal, poverty alleviation, and social and environmental change in Winnipeg, using a community development or CED approach. Spark staff work with organizations to define their skill and capacity gaps, and then connect them to relevant resources. The centrepiece of the service is arranging pro bono projects between organizations and volunteers with specialized skills from a wide variety of professions to provide short-term but crucial assistance. www.sparkwpg.ca
