About the Course

Join a community of brave, innovative and determined leaders from across Canada to examine your leadership through 6 sessions of supported and embodied learning. 

Designed to respond to your experience, this unique learning environment will help organizational leaders and managers navigate real-world leadership challenges that participants can immediately apply to their roles.

For whom: Leadership and management professionals, aspiring leaders, and social entrepreneurs looking to efficiently and effectively develop their skills as the next generation of change-makers. 

Prerequisite: Due to the applied nature of this course you will be required to commit to approximately 2 hours of self reflection and application following each module.

Optional Accreditation: This program offers the opportunity to achieve an internationally recognized 3rd-year university Award in Leadership GCU certification.

Beyond just technical skills, this course will equip you with tools to help strengthen your teams, encourage problem solving and creativity, and empower personal growth, confidence and emotional intelligence. 

Module 1 (14 hours): Leading and Understanding Myself 

  • Identify your leadership strengths, preferences, areas of development and the type of leadership needed within your working environment;
  • Understand different leadership approaches, and learn to adapt your leadership approach to different situations;
  • Explore reflective listening and emotional intelligence as key leadership skills toward better communication and trust;
  • Examine the difference between Leadership and Management, enhancing the right skills for both; and
  • Examine Inclusive Leadership, power dynamics in the workplace and building cultures of belonging

Module 2 (14 hours): Leading and Understanding Others 

  • Explore Leadership as a system, and identify cause and effect factors that create healthy and engaging workplaces;
  • Deepen your understanding of motivational drivers, learn how to motivate others and create a motivating work environment;
  • Refine your delegation skills and strengthen your coaching capacity;
  • Explore the key skills of listening, questioning and feedback to foster a culture of open and effective communication;
  • Understand leadership styles and discover where opportunities lie to strengthen leadership capacity; and
  • Examine role transitions and their impact on responsibilities and behaviour

Module 3 (14 hours): Leading in the Organization

  • Explore the advantages and challenges to working with different working styles and improve your ability to manage differences;
  • Consider the stages that teams go through as they form, storm, perform and transform and how leaders can support each stage;
  • Consider how to manage change and transition in your organization while engaging your teams on the journey;
  • Deepen your understanding of skilful communication and improve your ability to handle difficult conversations with confidence;
  • Assess your and your team’s resilience and discover ways to bounce back from challenges; and
  • Reflect on your future leadership posture with a plan to embed your learning, new skills and tools.

About the Facilitator

Suzanne Gibson facilitates CCEDNet’s Leadership programs. She brings over 25 years of experience helping organizations “awaken their potential” to achieve their mandates and visions. Her aim is to:

  • Inspire new and established organizations to “dream big,” unite around an idea and turn those dreams into reality
  • Help you uncover creative solutions to complex social and organization problems
