Chanelle Lajoie (BCL/JD) is a Red River Michif and Swampy Cree woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba (Treaty 1), and a member of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation (Treaty 6). She is honoured to be the first in her family to pursue post-secondary education.
After graduating from McGill University’s Faculty of Law, Chanelle joined the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre’s Prison Law Clinic, first as an Articling Student and now as Staff Lawyer. She advocates alongside individuals and communities impacted by incarceration, raises awareness of conditions of confinement, and advances access to justice for people in custody.
A former Walls-to-Bridges student participant, Chanelle completed three courses alongside peers at Stony Mountain Institution and later completed facilitator training in 2024. She is excited to contribute to the University of Winnipeg’s Fall 2026 Walls-to-Bridges course, Parole in Canada.
