Jill Beauchamp (they/them) is the Food Security Coordinator for Fireweed Food Co-op.

Fireweed Food Co-op is a non-profit cooperative that aims to increase access to local, nutritious foods from small-scale, sustainable farmers. Fireweed operates the South Osborne farmer’s market, a food hub, and several food security initiatives such as the Veggie Van and the Waste Not program.

The Veggie Van is a mobile vegetable stand, bringing subsidized fresh, nutritious food into food insecure communities in Winnipeg. The Veggie Van operates with a pay-what-you can model, the aim being to lessen barriers to accessing this local food. The Waste Not program exists to find homes for any produce that is leftover from the Veggie Van stops, or donated by producers at our Farmers Market.

Jill has over a decade of experience in a wide range of food service positions, providing them a vast scope of knowledge on food and the food systems in Manitoba.

They’ve spent several years organizing and facilitating a community garden, planning community events, and doing front-line harm reduction work in Winnipeg.

Their unique perspective comes from lived experience relating to food security, navigating social support systems, and their years of working in front line positions, directly with community members.

In both their work and personal life, Jill is passionate about community centered care, focused on grassroots community lead projects, mutual aid, and anti-oppression harm reduction practices.

Being able to connect with and support communities close to their heart, fuels Jill’s drive for radical positive change.
