Kim Hickes was raised in Churchill, MB, a remote tundra-barren community of 800 people. In this environment she learned what it meant to be part of a community – in order to survive it was necessary to help each other, rely on your neighbours and to be creative with limited resources. She has carried forward these values in her work in tourism, Municipal Government, Community Development and the Executive Director positions she has held at Riverside Daycare, Boys and Girls Club of Thompson, Thompson Crisis Centre and currently at the YWCA Thompson. She has deep seeded roots and relationships throughout the North, which has guided her success.

In 2003 along with her young family, she relocated to Thompson and brought along her love of curling and volunteering, and currently sits on a variety of Boards and community groups.

She holds a Municipal Administration designation with distinction from the University of Manitoba.
