Maggie Yeboah

African Communities of Manitoba Inc. (ACOMI)

Executive Director

Maggie Yeboah is a community leader, social worker, and the Executive Director of African Communities of Manitoba Inc. (ACOMI). Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Maggie moved to Canada in 1981 and has since dedicated much of her life to community development, family services, cultural engagement, and supporting African, Black, newcomer, and immigrant communities in Manitoba.

Before coming to Canada, Maggie worked as a teacher. In Winnipeg, she earned a diploma in Early Childhood Education and Special Needs Child Care from Red River College and later completed a Bachelor of Social Work degree at the University of Manitoba . Her professional career includes 12 years in early childhood education and 16 years as a Community Outreach Coordinator.

Maggie has been actively involved in community and cultural organizations for decades and has been part of ACOMI since its inception in 1997 , serving in numerous volunteer and leadership roles before becoming Executive Director. Through her work, she continues to advocate for stronger communities, greater inclusion, culturally responsive services, and opportunities that empower individuals and families.

Her community service has been recognized through several honours, including the Lieutenant Governor’s Make a Difference Community Award , the Malayika Award for dedication, compassion, and leadership in immigrant services, and the Black History Month Wade Kojo Williams Sr. Human Rights Award . She has also been recognized as a Volunteer of Outstanding Merit in Manitoba and was named among Ace Burpee’s 100 Most Fascinating Manitobans for 2020 .

Family and community remain central to Maggie’s life. She is married and the mother of four adult children. In her personal time, she enjoys cooking, sewing, volunteering, and attending church with her family.
