This report explores some of the existing work done by others on the barriers Canada’s Indigenous Peoples face in participating in natural resource management, providing a synopsis that will hopefully help to enlighten the policies of the government of Manitoba. It recommends that the provincial government take steps to address the real need to relinquish its absolute control over natural resources on unoccupied Crown land in Manitoba and share power with First Nations in Northern Manitoba. This relinquishment and sharing of power with Northern Manitoba First Nations over natural resources is essential if Manitoba is truly concerned about elevating the socio-economic standing of Manitoba’s Northern First Nation communities.
