Counting Women In: A Toolkit for Rural Action on Poverty is the culmination of eight years of research and community development by the Rural Women Take Action on Poverty Committee. The strategies and tools in the toolkit were developed and piloted in Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth counties to make the issue of poverty more visible and to build hope for change. The toolkit is a resource to change attitudes and beliefs about rural women and poverty and to support action and change. Five strategies are set out:

  1. Gathering Women and Communities,
  2. Getting the Facts – Community Report Cards,
  3. Celebrating Women – Community Arts Projects,
  4. Engaging Municipal Government, and
  5. Building Partnerships.

Each strategy has tools and resources that come from projects piloted over the past three years that involved women, service providers, advocates, volunteers and community leaders. Counting Women In: A Toolkit for Rural Action on Poverty and a companion online resource kit can be downloaded here. For print copies and more information contact us through this website.
