This is the first workshop in a set of workshops inspired by the collaboration focus of the 2019 Gathering, themed, Movement Weaving: Building Collaborative Capacity. To learn more about the spirit and intent of that event, visit the Gathering page. 

Each one is a stand-alone workshop that tackles a different aspect and practice of collaboration. 

Do unresolved conflicts get in the way of your group’s effectiveness?  Do you want to increase your 'interpersonal toolkit'? 

This interactive session will build on participants' own experiences of challenging situations, and introduce additional easy-to-learn skills and concepts that are proven to be effective at helping people do successful problem-solving.  

Karen Ridd teaches in the Conflict Resolution Studies programme at Menno Simons College. Her engaging teaching style and 30+ years of experience in the field make her a valuable resource.

Karen Ridd (M.A. Peace and Justice: Governor-General's Gold Medal) has been teaching in the Conflict Resolution Studies and International Development Studies programmes at Menno Simons College of the University of Winnipeg for the last 22 years. Karen is a mediator, facilitator, teacher, and public speaker with over 30 years of experience as a conflict resolution practitioner; she currently lives in Winnipeg’s inner-city. In the 1980s Karen worked as a human rights volunteer in war zones in Central America with Peace Brigades International. Her work there was recognized with the 1992 Governor-General's Award: Government of Canada 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation Medal, the 1990 Canada YM/YWCA Canada Peace Medal and the 1989 Manitoba International Human Rights Achievement Award. Karen is also an associate of Training for Change (Philadelphia) and Mediation Services (Winnipeg). Karen’s work has taken her to intentional settings such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Cambodia, and Thailand, as well as work with local not-for-profits.  In 2013 Karen was honoured for her work by being named the International Peace and Justice Studies Association “Educator of the Year.”
