Job Title: National Communications Assistant
Reports to: Director of Engagement

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Canadian CED Network is looking for someone to support our communications and engagement activities. This position will support refreshing our social media presence through the development and implementation of a social media strategy, including research, content design, and posting. This strategy will outline social media platforms to prioritize, channels to monitor, and guidelines for social media posting (language to use, word limits, call-to-actions, photo sourcing and formatting, tagging, hashtags, how to post, posting frequency, post timing, accessibility guidelines, etc.)
We also need support in keeping our website up to date with new content relevant to community economic development (news, job postings, events, etc.). Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for June 25, so you will be coming in at a pivotal moment to support and attend this important member meeting and the communications leading up to the event.
Depending on your background and skills you could also help with our continued growth in improving our cybersecurity practices and ethical adoption of AI.

A GLIMPSE AT THE WORK
Over the course of the eight (8) week placement you will:
- meet regularly with the Manager, Program Delivery and Financial Services and the Director of Engagement to develop work and learning plans
- support promotions (emails, webposts, etc.) and preparations (presentation slides, role orientation, etc.) for the Annual General Meeting
- begin research into social media strategies (templates, industry examples, social media platforms that are gaining ground with nonprofits, etc.)
- work with the Director of Engagement to create a social media strategy based on the research
- begin implementing the social media strategy
- attend virtual events that are of interest to you and the Canadian CED Network to expand your knowledge and network
- attend and contribute to virtual meetings with teams across departments
- make posts to the website to keep the calendar of events, job board, and what’s new sections up to date
- support any newsletters that will go out during this timeframe
ABOUT YOU
You are a communicator. You have a good understanding of various social media platforms and how to create effective posts for target audiences. You also have an interest in website management and a desire to connect with people online.
You are someone who likes to collaborate within teams but is also comfortable working independently. You’re unafraid to ask questions, are able to engage in active listening, and are open to feedback to develop your knowledge and skills.
Tools that you will be expected to use that would be an asset for you to have some knowledge of include LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, MailChimp, Google Workspace, Canva, Zoom, CiviCRM, Monday (for project management), and Box (cloud storage).
Additionally, you feel a connection with the values of the Canadian CED Network (see below). Having an interest in or an openness to learning how nonprofits work would also be an asset.
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for this Canada Summer Jobs funded position, candidates must:
- be aged between 15 and 30 years old (at the start of your summer job)
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or someone who has been officially given refugee protection in Canada and
- be legally allowed to work in Canada
TEAM & ENVIRONMENT
This position is fully remote, though if you are located where we currently have team offices in Winnipeg or Ottawa, you may choose to work hybrid or full-time in the office. This position requires you to use your own computer, given the short nature of the contract.
You will work directly with the Director of Engagement and the Manager, Program Delivery and Financial Services. You will also take part in regular virtual meetings with teams across departments.
